  1. Dog is a delicacy in Vietnam and usually eaten at the time of the full moon. Dogs are not like the family pet we have here. They like everything else there must serve a purpose and food is one of those purposes. The places that serve dog and cat are not easy to find as a tourist. The Vietnamese are aware that we are sensitive to customs like these.

I had a guide take me to a restaurant that served dog and cat because I really wanted to try it. It was not easy convincing him that I was serious. He has never taken a westerner to one of these places before. But when I travel I like to try everything.

We had a great time and I can with first hand knowledge sat yes the Vietnamese do eat dog and cat too.

  2. the j**s do.

  3. yes, there are carts in vietnam

  4. Not all Vietnamese eat dog meat... But some of them do like it. They even eat crocodiles, field mice, rabbits, goats etc.

I've never tried any of those & I'm a Vietnamese girl! Haha... anyway, my Dad said dog meat was very delicious when you didn't know it was of dogs...

  5. Yes, Vietnamese people do eat dogs. There's a part of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) that have many restaurants selling dog meat.

A couple of jokes for you:

    Q. What do you call a Vietnamese walking a dog?

    A. A vegetarian.

    Q. What do you call a Vietnamese walking two dogs?

    A. A cattle rancher.

Notes added: Since "AzNgUrL521" (post below) didn't get my jokes, I guess I'll have to explain:

    * A Vietnamese walking a dog must be a vegetarian, because if he were a meat-eater he would've eaten that dog.

    * A Vietnamese having two dogs is probably raising them for butchering, like cattle ranchers raising farm animals.

BTW. I was born and raised in Vietnam, and I've eaten my share of dog meat. It's GOOOOOD !

  6. u r correct!!they do eat dogs n sometimes even their own pet dogs . its also got  something to do with theie religious practices.

  7. "We" eat piglets, lamb, veal, foie gras, baby chicken, even guinea-pigs, etc.. Same difference!

Quite some American indigenous peoples eat dogs, even puppies, too...

  8. yes, they do, but not the whole population, only a fraction of it.

  16. It's part of thier culture.Like many other asian nations, they'd rather feed thier family than a dog

  17. as a vietnamese, yes its true, but i don't! not here in australia! when i go to vietnam, i see dog restaurants, headless dogs hung up on the window, its terrible and cruel. but not many vietnamese people eat it but koreans do. if you go to vietnam and you see the word "cay to" it means dog meat. not many of them. which is good.

  18. anh khong thich thit cay.  Nguoi viet thich thit cay  - rat ngon.

YES, they eat dog in Vietnam. I saw signs for Thit Cay while driving through Da-Nang..   Its a specific type of dog similiar to a DINGO.. Its not a big deal!   They also eat cat and rat..   I didn't try any of it.. I loved snail and eel though.  Oc hut and Ca leon

    Vietnamese FOOD is awesome!

  19. eh its really no big deal...i went to vietnam where dog meat is a delicacy and my cousin told me to eat it without telling me what it was...taste normal hehe i wouldn't go looking for dog to eat cuz ders really no special taste to it...wel not to me at least...but if it's there then i'll eat it, if you hear about people eatting dog meat in the us then thats a bit fishy...where on earth would you find dog meat in the US?very few do eat dog meat here...alot of people who miss it usually use pork instead of dog but they use the same ingrediants and leave the rest to their imagination haha...i guess its jus shocking cuz dogs are domesticated animals but hey someone could also befriend a cow...what then? lol wud they stop eatting beef? ionno lol

  20. I know in countries like china they do. but which countries. I don't know.quote from a movie."dog makes a fine meal. I think dog used to be eaten in America. who knows.

  21. I've been living in Vietnam for a couple years, and I decided to try dog meat "thit cho" a couple weeks after I got here. My wife's family wanted to go eat it, so I decided I'd try it too. The first course was a soup. They took out a front paw from the pot and set in my bowl. I didn't like it much. There was one dish that wasn't bad though. It was sliced, grilled dog meat and they sprinkled sesame seeds on top. I've tried dog meat several times since then, and I still think that's the only way I can really eat it. And there's a terrible purple sauce "mam tom" that's made from fermented fish that they dip the meat into. It smells terrible.

  22. absolutly! not all vietnamese eat dogs all the time but some do. and iv'e never met a vietnamese who hasn't eat dog on occation. in just about every town there are sections [ 1-2 blocks ]that   sell dog meat exclusively ; "thit cay" or thit cho" the signs will read in rows of eateries. "dog meat". only once in ha noi have i seen skinned and "prepared" dogs hanging out in front of a resturaunt, like pigs or chickens . but ive seen plenty of live dogs in cages being taken to market  on the back of motor bike or bicycles... its pretty tough to look at... the dogs in viet nam are pretty cute.... its a farming country and animals are "groceries" thoi! now if you realy want to try something ... eat "vit loan"[sp] duck eggs....i promis you, you"ll rather eat dog!

  23. My personal knowledge is that only Vietnamese who are Catholics, and those who are atheists eat dogs. The Buddhists cannot eat dogs because it's religiously forbidden.

In Saigon, there is a well-known area for delicatesen of a variety of dog meat dishes called " Cho Ong Ta" (Mr. Ta's Market), where butchered dogs are hung on displays (like roast ducks in Chinatown) & watched upon by bygoers.

  24. yes i had dog there last feb. chinese eat dog also aussies eat horse  and americans eat dirty chickens

  25. I haven't heard of Vietnamese eating dogs, but I HAVE heard of Koreans eating dogs . . .
