Question:

Do Western Oil gas stations really sell gas from sources and refineries in the United States?

I have been told by many friends to buy my gasoline from Western brand gas stations. They tell me that the gasoline sold there is produced and refined in the U.S., and by purchasing that brand of gasoline, I am not supporting Middle East oil. Does anyone know if this is true?

I've noticed that their prices are lower than at other stations, by at least 10 to 14 cents per gallon.

  1. No, not necessarily so. The blame for the imported oil does not lie with the middle east, but rather the U.S. We made a deal with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in the 70's, negotiated by Then Secretary of state, Henry Kissinger that we would agree to buy a certain amount of their oil each year, and they would in return, use a certain portion of the profits generated by our agreement to buy a portion of our national debt.- We signed and they signed- Therefore we will always import oil from the Mideast- That is why the oil from the Alaskan pipeline is exported by the US- we have to make room for the mid-eastern oil we agreed to buy- It has turned into a very bad deal for the U.S.- that is why no politician or government official ever mentions this fact- nor will they ever bring up the fact that we are the worlds fifth largest exporter of oil and yet we have to import it? If they mentioned this they would have to try and explain it , and no one wants to admit to such a colossal mistake- The administration at the time could not have did this without the agreement to do so from congress. They could renege on the agreement, but we have to have the help with the deficit or we'll go under.

  2. I have no idea where Western Oil gas stations are, since they are not listed on the Internet anywhere.  However, there are very few, if any service stations that do not buy their gas from the nearest supplier.   In effect, all gas stations "support Middle East oil", although most of our imported gasoline and crude oil come from Mexico and Canada.  All the ones I could find are either associated with Mobile or Shell and they use gas from all over the world.

  3. A gas station, 90% of the time anyways, is a name only. A Citgo gas station can sell gas that was produced in a Mobile oil refinery and that crude oil the refinery uses could come from Canada. Case and Point: 7-11 stores that also sold gasoline sold "Citgo" gas. Citgo is owned by the Venezuelan Gov't, and when their President, Hugo Chavez, made a lot of remarks referring our govening officials as "devils", 7-11 quickly cut off all ties to the oil company. Within days 7-11 publicly announced that they were making their own brand of gas station. As of then all Citgo signs at 7-11 gas stations were taken down and replaced with 7-11 signs. Note, 7-11 did not have any shortage of gas because they bought their gas from anywhere was cheapest, not necceccarily Citgo. To make a long story longer, Any gas station you buy from could be supporting Western or Eastern gas.
