Theres alot of big thugs in the hood with much deadlier artillery then the police has, from a physical standpoint women are at a disadvantage. Now how do they historically fare in their performance compared to much bigger physically stronger make cops?

This is not a sexist question so no pun. I just wanna know from the cops on here who have worked with women on the streets how do they put up in physical confrontations against the big hood thugs?

  1. No, women are not as good.

  2. Female officers put up with a lot of trash talk from pukes on the street.  Some female officers are just weak as some male officers.  One is not better than the other.  I work with a female officer who is no taller that 5'1".  I have seen her take down suspects as tall as 6'2" and 220 pounds by herself.  It all comes down to training, ability and knowledge.  There have been times when I have called for help, two male officers show up and I'm still not confident that we can take someone down.  When she shows up to help me, alone, I'm not worried at all.  Female officers have more advantages in their corner than most people think.

  3. I have worked with many female officers and I have trained many female officers. With few exceptions I have had no problem going into violent situations with them.

The other thing to remember is that the presence of a female officer is often effective in diffusing violence in male offenders.

'it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog'

  4. Depends on the woman. There are several women my husband works with that I would have no qualms about them showing up to assist him at a call. there are some men that I wouldn't want them anywhere near him if/when something goes down.

Ironically, his best friend was shot and killed while on duty. He had a female partner that fought with the guy. She wound up being killed as well. when my husband was shot his male partner took off running and left him. I would much rather have had him partnered up with a woman who was "less effective" than the male who hightailed it out of there at the first sign of trouble.

  5. Well I'm a SGT with 10 years on the job who holds her own. Its not always about being physical. Women are much better at talking down subjects than men are. Oh, and I am tops at the gun range, in response to your "question" about thugs with bigger artillery. YES, i beat ALL the men.  Any questions???

  6. I've seen a lot of female officers that I would be glad to have come to my aid in a physical confrontation. It's not how big or tough the cop is, it's how confidant and competent they are. And I have known some cops male and female that I would prefer to have just stand there and watch. But for the most part, I have no trouble relying on a female officer for assistance. They have the same training and knowledge that I have.  Plus it's a nice bonus to see some scroatbag get put on the ground by a female.

  7. Physical size and strength do play an important part in street level police work. Mental strength, attitude, training and an ability to show a strong "officer presence" play a much bigger part in the overall success of this demanding job. These qualities are not limited to males.

  8. Female officers bring a different dimension to policing.  Some people will not be as combative when they talk with a female.  It's not all about physical strength.  The smallest person in our deprtment is female.  No one would have a problem with her being their back up.   She is actually a trainer when it comes to physical contact.  There are some men here that are not physically capable of doing what she can do!

  9. I like that song from the Carter 3 "misses officer".  Rodney King baby Im a beat it like a cop.
