The Liberal court agreed with teachers that parents typically are not qualified to teach their kids.

Homeschooling essentially became illegal.

About 5 months later, the court woke up and changed its mind.

Liberal elites on the side of the teachers union, even with homeschool students outperforming their public school counterparts.

The teachers union is afraid the public will discover they have flushed a once great education system down the toilet over the last 30 yrs. when parents are able to provide a superior environment for the education of their children with a much lower expense and much greater safety and personal security.

They are on the gravy train and don't want to reach the depot.

No, all legitimate studies prove time and time again that home schooled student do substantially better on SAT's and other college entry exams. The loony or greedy left is doing this because of the millions of dollars not going to public schools. Another main factor in this issue, is the fact the liberal movement has to have these kids in their care to indoctrinate them into their cult.

I think the courts went too far on that . . . but I would support a measure which mandated some sort of competence test for home school teachers . . . I think that would be reasonable.

I don't think it's asking too much to require that parents who wish to homeschool their children receive teaching credentials. Children deserve to be educated by qualified teachers, no matter what the setting is.

Even worse is the reason for this rule.

They do not want children homeschooled because then the authorities cannot supervise you to ensure that you are raising your children in the manner they approve of.

If you read the article all the way through, you will see that homeschooling is not made illegal, but rather a statute that is already on the books requires that all children be taught by credentialed teachers.  This same law has been successfully challenged by several religious groups.  That is why many such children are enrolled in private religious schools.

I've seen some pretty stupid parents homeschooling their kids.

I don't see how the kids are supposed to get an education from parents that couldn't graduate from high school.

I don't think that parents should be required to get a degree in education and thus become a licensed teacher but there should be at least some testing of the parents education.
