Do You Feed Lettuce to Canary?

Hi ppl,

Can you actually feed lettuce to the canary? Beacause i read in this site where u cant feed them, but does not give the answer why. Also i have a canary and she laid eggs. NOw she still sits there after a long period like 3 weeks. It wont hacth Help??

  1. You can feed lettuce to birds, but you should feed the dark leaf variety, iceberg lettuce is mainly water and is of no benefit to your bird.

    Some varieties are a source of thiamin and vitamin A.

    If you only have one bird then the eggs will not be fertile, that's why they don't hatch, you would need to get a male bird.


  2. Well, you don't feed them iceberg lettuce.  That stuff isn't good for any animal because all it does is fill the animal up on something that's mostly water and not much (if any) other nutrients, and give it diarrhea.  I don't know how good romaine lettuce is, but it's sure better than iceberg.
