There are huge debates about the public use and wearing of the Confederate flag across the US. Some people find the image of that flag offensive by itself.

It has deep roots in the Southern parts of the US. Do you find anything wrong with the public display of the Confederate flag?

  1. It is part of our history and as long as it is second to the Stars and Stripes there is nothing wrong with it. I was born and raised in the North. I am also anti PC and feel people well be offended by everything so they need to grow up. Peace

  2. No, it's there states history

  3. I find it a relevant part of our heritage.

  4. It sure makes me think why would anyone be proud of being a loser?

  5. I do find it offensive. I don't buy that it has deep roots in the South. That flag didn't even exist before the Civil War and was the flag carried in battle. It wasn't revered and loved during the antebellum period. It didn't exist.

When someone says it has meaning to them, I'd like to ask what, exactly, does it mean.

  6. well im from the north....but no

how can you be offended by something that happened 150 years ago??

we live in an overlysensitized society

  7. I find it no more offensive that a swastika.

  8. It depends on who you are, I suppose.  Being a native southerner, I don't find it offensive at all.  No one else really did until some ignorant groups started using it as a symbol of hate.  Some states have caved in and removed it from their seals, insignia, etc.  I don't believe it should be removed because it is a symbol of history and heritage, and serves to remind us of a turbulent time in our history and where we came from.

  9. No I don't... I feel that it is a sign of where we have been and where we should go... It's when we forget things like the Civil war and what it was about that we stray from the path to freedom...

  10. It's not the best idea,

  11. I find it beautiful

  12. Nope

  13. It maybe history. But what kind of history are we stating? This was a time of secularism and the resistance to abolish slavery. How come you never see any union flags in the north? To many people this is why they may find it offensive.

  14. It should not be displayed by the state governments.  It is a symbol of anti_union sentiment and a reminder of slavery and oppression.

  15. It happens to be part of this countries history. If not so much focus would be given to the flag, it would not be an issue.

It is always better to ignore something than to fight about it.

  16. A lot of good people, white and black, died for that flag. I could care less about who it offends.

  17. Do be more specific, do you mean the Confederate Battle Flag or the Flag of the Confederacy? They are not the same thing.

  18. People will find words offensive because they want to. My father died because of tobacco. I could say tobacco is an offensive word to me. It is usually done for effect, and the media loves to play the part of the aggressor.

  19. We tolerate a lot of forms of expression in this country

Some are alot more offensive than historical Confederate Flag

I personally believe that if someone wants to where a T-shirt or jacket with the confederate flag on it we should except it as that person right to wear it.

  20. The people who are offended by it nearly always (in my experience) think the person displaying the flag means something completely different by it than they do.

If a white guy has a Confederate flag on display he probably intends it to mean that he is rebellious.  Then someone else comes along and claims that the guy is a racist because of the flag.  People want to think that everything else going on in the world is about them.  If somebody talks to their friend in a language you don't understand, it doesn't mean they are talking about you.  A lot of people can't override their emotions with logic.

My experience with it has been on the West coast.  Things in the South might be different, but I doubt it.  The bottom line is that it represents part of our history, and to outlaw your history is ridiculous.

  21. It has a place in "you might be a redneck" jokes.  Understand that if you fly that flag you will be looked on as a racist and white trash.

  22. Well, it stands to represent the confederate states, which seceded from the rest of america in a battle over slavery.  At best, it is a separatist flag, not a unifying flag.

So, to many people, the confederate flag is a flag that salutes slavery.  Remember, only 50 years ago, most of the south was still segregated.

The swastika is held in a similar regard by many, simply because of the people who flew it and what they stood for.

  23. It is your right to display it if you want to. It is racist though. By supporting the flag, you support the values that the flag represented, one of which was slavery. It is the same thing as displaying a n**i German Flag. You can display it if you want to but by doing that you should understand what the flag stood for at the time.

  24. I really have no opinion on it.

  25. Let them fly their loser flag.  I can't see why someone would want to claim 'losing' as their heritage.  Go figure.

I agree with the other poster, however.  It is one of the most anti-American symbols in our country.  They tried to secede from the Union.

  26. I think it is wrong to call yourself a patriot and fly a confederate flag.  The confederate flag is the most anti-America symbol that exists.  Nothing says I hate America more than the flag that was flown by the very people who did not want to be part of America.

  27. No I do not. Only when it is used when some skin head wants to talk about their country and how the black man is destroying it.

Most of the people have it as a symbol of their culture and heritage.

  28. When I see the confederate flag all I think is White Trash....

  29. no, its not offensive. it makes a colorful table cloth or window shade.

    that's about all.

  30. no,even though it was first raised by democrats

  31. I find it silly.

That flag flew over any part of the current US for just over 4 years (and only sporadically, then).

People who call it their "heritage" don't know their heritage.
