After buying the game, when you create an account, you will receive one month of free playing time.

After this one month, you can either pay via credit card, or "game cards".

Credit Card:

This means you will be billed every thirty days for US$14.99

(this is the most common method. It is also available in 3 and 6 month installments)

Game Card:

These are 60 Day Prepaid Game cards, which each has a unique code.

To set both of these up, you go to http://www.worldofwarcraft.com and go to the Account Management.

I believe its $15 a month.

But don't quote me on that since my brother pays for my account.

But you can make as many characters on different servers as you want with that one account.

WoW requires a monthly fee.  You can buy it a month at a time, three months at a time, etc.  The more you buy at once, the better the deal.
