Do You Think I'd Be Able To Get A Decent Sound System For Around $500?

I'm buying a '02 Malibu and I wanna put a sound system in it.. with speakers, sub, amp, etc... but not the REAL expensive stuff so do you think I could get all that plus installed by someone for around $500 or a little more?

Yes and No, you can goto any big box stores (Circuit city, Best Buy). You will be getting entry level items. You can get a 300 watt rms amp (around 200) 2 12 inch kicker subs(100 buy one get on free) and a box ($75 sealed) for $375 + wiring and install. Decent wiring kit with rca range anywhere from $50-100 and install. Circuit City charges $65 to run amp wires and install the amp which is not bad b/c it can be a decent amount of work. I know cause I work at CC. It does sound pretty dam good, but the sale is until saturday 6/7/8

try craigslist and yes it is possible or check out a company called power bass on ebay sounds great for a lil bit o money  also i see ppl on craigslist hook up stuff for very little money  so check there to or your local dealer

You have to be pretty savvy to pull it off.

Look on Craigslist for subs.  Seems right now everybody is broke and wanting to dump their car audio to pay bills and you can find some deals for $100 for subs in an enclosure.  Spend some decent money on the amp ... try to find at least a reputable brand.  Installation of your amp and a line out converter (which will allow you to use your stock deck with your new amp) will run you another hundred so your $500 is pretty much out.  Perhaps later down the road you can invest a little more for the speakers, but at least you will have a starter system.

Go to millionbuy.com and see wat u can find..i know u can get a descent one for under 500..but instillation..your on your own..sorry

Unless you have someone do the install on the side you wont be able to get that much for $500 at best buy or whatever store since they charge an arm and a leg for install. but if you are just looking at subs amp and wiring you could get a decent sound system for $450 without labor($200 amp, $150 sub, and $100 wiring kit). Since you are on a budget if you go to best buy or some place they might try to sell you component speakers too (door speakers) but you wont need them since the 02 should hold up pretty good as long as you are not planning on rattling the neighborhood. One more thing that might cost money is a line output converter. If you don't have a aftermarket headunit (cd player) your factory deck may not have any outputs for amps so this gives you one. They are only about $20 though.
