  1. Yes

  2. Yes. Although betting on the game is despicable, you just can't ignore his statistics. He was an important part of the 1970s "Big Red Machine" and helped the Phillies to a World Series title in 1980.

  3. Stats wise he should be, but he did break a cardinal rule by betting against his own team!

  4. Yes, but before his managing career.

  5. The Hall does not want him, and that's the only opinion that matters.

His ineligibility for consideration is not based upon his playing career. No one denies he was an impressive, very good, sometimes great player.

But Player Rose is indivisible from Gambler Rose, and Gambler Rose was very bad at following one particular, very important rule, one which has a defined sanction for violating it.

Rose can get in when he's innocent.

  6. when you set the record the most hits in a career, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be in the HOF. Even if he did gamble as a manager. Give the man props as a hitter

  7. if he bet against his own team then no but if he bet for them then i don't see why not a manager should expect his team to win every day!

  8. ....based on his playing record, YES

    Charlie Hustle......

  9. Yes, but it wont be after he's dead and buried. MLB will not give him the satisfaction to live to see that.

  10. Rose definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame. He should go in and be judged on his performance as a player.

  11. Never, Never, Never!

  12. yes the only reason why he wont be in the HOF is because he played for the reds

  13. Pete Rose holds the record for most career hits and most career at - bats. Of course he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame! And yes, he did gamble which is not the smartest thing to do (I have no quarrels with gambling, the government can legalize it for all I care) but he bet for HIS TEAM TO WIN, not to lose like in the Black Sox Scandal of 1919. He was actually making himself be a better manager to make his team win and make a little extra cash on the side. What's wrong with that? But he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame for his undeniable ability and status as a baseball legend.

  14. yeah

  15. as a poker player

  16. ABSOLUTELY..... no questions asked.  His accomplishments on the field are amazing.

  17. NO.

He broke a rule that is posted in every Major League clubhouse; you know, those rooms that he practically lived in every day of his career.  It couldn't have been posted any more clearly; you bet on baseball, you are permanently banned.

You play with fire, and you're going to get burned.  Pete Rose lost this gamble, and he'll be paying off this debt permanently.

If anyone should know what it means to take that risk and get beaten, it should be a gambler, Pete Rose.

You do NOT get a free pass for being a great player.  If nothing else, you should be held MORE accountable; as one of the game's all-time greats, you are representing the game of baseball.

If he is reinstated, MLB is sending a message that you're usually not allowed to gamble, but if you're one of the best players ever, then it's OK.  Wow, talk about integrity of the game, talk about a double standard!

And this has nothing to do with betting for or against your own team; we all know it's bad to bet against your own team.  However, even if you're betting on your own team, who's to say you're not doing things a bit differently than if you didn't have a wager riding on the game?  Do you take it easier on days on which you're not betting?  What changes are you making because you're making bets?  It's wrong, no matter how you look at it.

He knew what he was doing wrong, he knew it was against the rules, and he did it anyway.  How can you argue for the guy?

He does not belong in the Hall of Fame.

  18. Absolutely

  19. Never.

He was a great player, but he broke the one rule that can never be broken.  Breaking that rule incurs a price.  If you let him off the hook, then that rule becomes meaningless.

  21. no he did something bad but i forgot what it was

  22. yes he does he had over 4000 hits!!! how many players can say they got close to that not a lot...he only bet on his team that they would win its not like he threw the game so he could win money he betted only on the reds that should just make him be a better manager i see no problem with that...so yes yes YES!!!
