Question:

Do You Think That Cats Know That Humans Are Different To Them?

OK, so when a cat is born, it's mother looks after it. As they get a bit older, we take over and do the things it's mother did, such as feeding it. What do you think goes through a cat's mind? Do you think they know that we are not another cat? I know that nobody could ever know what a cat thinks. It is just a hypothetical question to see what people think.

  1. hey Paul,

I believe cats are clever animals and will never confuse us with their relatives.

You have to remember they are animals, hence their senses are much more developed than ours. For instance, their sense of smell and hear perform so much better than ours that they can tell we aren't made of the same flesh.

Moreover, as someone mentioned before, cats (and so are other pets) do not feel the sense of family that is so important to human beings. A mum is here to give birth and enable them to live independently, i.e. hunt, eat, clean themselves, etc... but then she's not part of their life anymore. I remember my cats used to even fight between brothers/mothers and sisters for food - life is what matters, not family.

So yes I think they know we're different but cats have always been known for being very closed to human and liking them a lot. In Egyptian time, they used to be considered sacred animals and have long been a loyal companion to us simply because we trust and respect them.

  2. i think cats think we are thier slaves. they get attitudes when they get older like they are better than every thing else around them. some cat appreciate us but others think we should be greatful to be able to scoop their litter.

  3. Well, I don't think that they think that you are there mother because as they get older they don't need their mother anymore and then they get adopted so they would think you as their freind. They would also depend on you to survive. I know you feel like you are the mother. Cats must think that we look so weird compared to them! I mean furless, purrless, meowless, and tailess! I wonder what cats think when we talk. This is an interesting question!

  4. i agree with christin actually because my cat right now has stolen my chair and im sitting on a bean bag, but i don't think they think were humans they can telll teh difference between them and a dog  and a mouse so they should beable to us. plus they find out that they don't grow like us. but yh like the ancient egyptions cats must think that we look after thier every wim, because we do

  5. Perhaps they view us as bald, benevolent giants (lol).  I read somewhere once in a cat psychology book that they have the ability to switch to baby mode when indoors, but the minute they step outside, they revert to being the skillful predators that nature made them.

    It's a really interesting question.
