Hi, i am a fifteen year old and had gone through all the levels of swimming classes in the YMCA. I was watching the olympics and decided that i would love nothing more than to be an olympic swimmer. My family and swimming class teachers said that i am a pretty good swimmer. If I start to train now, and with alot of dedication and work, is it possible to become an olympic swimmer for the 2012 olympics or even 2016?

  1. I'd say you might be too old but if you want, start now. A lot of swimmers take a lot of time before they peak.

  2. i asked this a couple days ago. check it out.

you REALLY have to train hard, AM & PM and weight lift too.

  3. Hey, I'm 13 and I have been swimming since I was 6. I also want to become an olympic swimmer and I think it is awesome that you want to go to the olympics. But if that's what you want then you better start training immeadiately. This summer I am doing 8 two hour practices per week.

These are the time standards for the olympic trials, keep in mind that they are in meters:

    GIRLS    OPEN    50 Meters  OLYM

    50 Free   26.39

    100 Free   57.19

    200 Free   2:03.39

    400 Free   4:19.39

    800 Free   8:50.49

    1500 Free   15:47.49

    100 Back   1:04.59

    200 Back   2:17.99

    100 Breast   1:12.59

    200 Breast   2:35.99

    100 Fly   1:02.39

    200 Fly   2:16.69

    200 IM   2:20.49

    400 IM   4:55.89

  4. It's possible, but you need to start yesterday. Most female swimmers peak at a young age (similar to Tennis). But then again, there's Dara Torres making the olympics as a 41 year old swimmer.
