I dont know if I should get a dinghy. I just got a 25 foot O'day sailboat and Im not sure if I nee a dinghy. Im not on a mooring but I might be someday. If I did get a dingh I dont know where to put it. what do poeple do when they dont have room to store it onboard. I have heard of tying it in back but wouldnt that mess up the steering and mack the boat go slower also. I dont know. Also If I should get a dinghy what kind is good. I will be with my family ostsly on the boat so a dingh for 4 people or more.

Thanks

  1. you tie it to your mooring

  2. Completely agree with the inflatable idea. So--- just a method I learned on the inland waterway. Get your boat up to speed with motor or sail -whatever you use the most. Observe you stern wake. Shorten up your tow rope so the dinghy is falling down slope of the wake. That is where you want to run it. If under engine power, you might feed the tow rope thru a plastic hard pipe like water line. Floats will not keep a tow rope out of the prop due to the suction.(ask me how I know this)-- Hope all these answers give you the trouble free boating we all hope for.

  3. Inflatable is the way to go.  It can be deflated, stowed on deck or in a locker aboard until needed.  If you do not have enough power aboard to run an electric pump, you can manually inlate one, using a foot pump quite quickly.

You can tow it behind your O'day without too much loss of speed, unless you have a motor on it at the time, and it will not interfere with your steering except when you try to dock, but even that can be managed.

  4. I think your answer is to get an inflatable.  Many can be stowed in a locker.  If you have an electric pump they can be quite quick to inflate.
