  1. It actually depends on how the student was raised, what he/she was taught, and if the student is what people consider "bad or good". All children are good kids on the inside, they just preform "bad actions". But if there are "bad" children, they probably don't ccare if they get caught, so use verbal communication. "Good" kids probably use non-verbal communication, and learn to understand each other.

  2. Children without disabilities are likely to use nonverbal and verbal communication skills fairly equally, whether they realize it or not.  Children with disabilities may depend more on one or another aspect of communication depending upon the type of disability they have.  However, just because a child has a disability doesn't mean that communication/language will be impacted.

For example, a child with a central auditory processing disorder may completely miss the verbal aspect, but pick up on minimal nuances of nonverbal communication.  A child on the autism spectrum may be very concrete or definite in their understanding of verbal language and still miss even the most obvious of nonverbal cues.  The important thing to remember is that regardless of the diagnosis, we can't assume that we will automatically know what each child will do until we meet him... every child's strengths will be different.

  3. This is really depended on what is the child good at and then use that opportunity to help the child

  4. As assigned? Nonverbal. We always have to write everything down. Not as assigned? Depends on the student. Girls use verbal things more. I've read in a study that when girls assembled a model, they weren't as fast, because they spent a lot of time verbally explaining how to do it. The guys were faster, but when asked how they did it, they couldn't explain it very well.
