I have heard from different Irish people who have moved to America from Ireland, say that many Irish have a bad view of Americans. Why is that?

  1. The liberals have been ruining our global reputation since and before the 60s and the vietnam war. Half make us out to be war mongers and the other half make us out to be cowards that cant fight for our country. Conservatives are going to turn this around, we are tired of the left misleading our youth and dragging our country threw the mud. Say what you want about me but I'm not going to sit quietly while you bad mouth the USA. Don't look at me, you can ask one of your friends to help dislodge my boot form your rear.

  2. no they have a problem with drinking

  3. As an Irish person, I don't have a problem with Americans, it's just who you elect to the White House that makes us concerned.  You need more political parties in your country instead of this 'one or the other' system you have.  They are both extremes with liberals on one side and conservatives on the other and nothing in the middle.  I think the recent revelations about Sarah Palin's daughter make the Republicans look like hypocrites, I wonder what other skeletons they have in their closet?

  4. I believe so. As an Irish person I think that the average Irish opinion of the US and Americans has went down since 9/11.

    There are other factors too

    - Ireland is supposedly as neutral country but during the war in Afghanistan, the US Army used one of our airports as a re-fuel base...lots of people were  unhappy.

    - Ireland doesn't have many natural resources and nowadays most of the economy is reliant upon outside investors...usually big American corporate investors stay long enough for their tax incentives and then move to Poland or another Country for cheaper labor.

I think on the whole (and obviously just a generalization based on my experiences) people find Americans are not so genuine and a bit over dramatic.

Of course I also like Eric's comment, we drink too much..maybe this twists our opinions!!

  5. Well they shouldn't because a large part of the population of the USA is Irish. Their families have been here a long time so they are not like traditionally Irish but in the northeast in the area around New York city most of the white people are Irish or Italian families. They have Irish last names and the freckles and blond or red hair to go with it. So they basically are hating themselves if they hate America.

  6. if they dont they should

  7. Well for political reasons a lot of European have problems with "Americans" especially in the last 8 years if you know what I mean....

Irish people are very friendly but they need time to get to know a foreigner, sometimes though is true they are not willing to make friends with Americans, but doesn't mean they treat them bad... Don't forget this doesn't apply only to Irish :-P
