Local Employers Rely On Legal, Illegal Immigrants

SAN DIEGO -- A special report by NBC 7/39 found much of San Diego's workforce is made up of both legal and illegal immigrants. They fill jobs experts say U.S. citizens cannot or will not.

Luawanna Hallstrom runs the Harry Singh Produce Company. She told NBC 7/39 without immigrant labor, San Diego's multimillion dollar tomato crop would suffer.

Local experts said many local businesses could not function without legal and illegal immigrant workers, especially in the building trades, landscaping and the restaurant and hotel trade.

  1. Luawanna Hallstrom runs the Harry Singh Produce Company. She told NBC 7/39 without immigrant labor, San Diego's multimillion dollar tomato crop would suffer.

Please note that she said immigrant labor not criminal labor! There is a difference!

Local experts? What local experts? The United Mexican Criminal Invaders to Turn USA into A Third World Nation Association? Those experts?

  2. Yes

  3. YOU are using SAN DIEGO as an example.  A border town.   And you should note that the article states Legal as well as illegal.

I do not believe it is nationwide, but in cities like Los angles, I believe most do , but indirectly.   Most large companies do not want to get their hands dirty and want to create "reasonable deniability"   They create or hire subcontractors who uses illegal immigrants.   That way they could say they didn't know.

  4. I am aware of some nurseries in northeast Ohio and factories in the same area that do.

  5. The current laws are set to lower the overall living stadards in the country. If some one tells you that Americans are unwilling to take a certain job it is important to ask why an American would not take a job that doesn't offer a living wage or health care. In other words the argument is framed, so that the employeer who doesn't want to cut into his profit margin, can use a canned answer ehich doesnt stand up to inquiry. There are no jobs that people wont perform givin that they are compensated properly. So to answer your question there are an enourmous amount of illegal aliens in the country and working and many employers that rely on the under market price of labor to inflate there profits.

  6. We have not begun to see the economic impact of losing the illegal workforce. We probably never will, the new President regardless of party will see to that. Ultimately the almighty dollar will decide the outcome of what to do about it.

  7. Lies! Why should I get paid nothing when I work hard?

That is the problem.  I am so tired of people saying Americans are lazy, and Americans wont do the job, etc.

What evidence do you have of this?

Can we live without cheap illegal labor, yes!

Can we live without exploited labor? No, unfortunately it’s a part of life!

Do Americans have a problem with IMMIGRANTS working in our country—NO!

People need to get a grip and start stateing the right facts!

  8. All illegals do is give into the politicians  and corporations that use them as cheap slaves and rip at the economy while the elite get rich, welcome to new world order people, nobody will have a chance except the elite. You are fighting a losing battle, illegals will always be poor and they are dragging everyone else down with them.

  9. Only slimey greedy ones.

  10. Again illegal is illegal no matter what.

  11. Of course they rely on illegal immigrant workers. It is not that Americans cannot do the job, but the do not WANT to do the job. Americans are pretty lazy if you ask me.

  12. The only reason there are jobs that Americans cannot, or will not do is because we are willing to give lazy people money for doing NOTHING.

Take the people out of prison, put them to work in the fields. Take the people on welfare and do the same with them. Pretty simple solution. Plus I get some return on my tax dollar.

  13. Obviously!  I could name about a hundred at the drop of a hat.  Most of the people I know who hire illegal immigrants will begin to freak out if they are driven out of America.

I live in Houston and they make up a great deal of the labor workforce.

  14. Of course not. Maybe only in boarder states but you think there are illegal immigrants in Michigan or Illinois?

Why do you think California's economy is in the toilet right now? lol

  15. ABSOLUTELY

  16. speaking for the restaurant business:YES; we could not survive without illegal immigrant workers.  americans are simply not willing to work the long hours for little pay, washing dishes, food prep, bussing tables, etc.

  17. That statement that illegals do the jobs that americans don't want to do is a load of c**p!!!! I was passed up for a management position with a machine shop for an illegal. I wanted that job but because he was the son in law he got it.....Doesn't even hardly speak English!!!

So if your argument is that they do the work americans do, then we should ship them to the circuses to clean up elephant ****!!!!

  18. Just because a few business's exploit illegals to to get cheap labor does not make it right. What ever happened to community? Our citizens should benefit from our industry; they should not be penalized for it. We do not need to make any one person rich at the expense of our society as a whole. Illegal labor swells the workplace with desperate people willing to work for slave wages. It is a cancer that lowers the standard of living for all legal citizens. The last thing that we need to do is to convert America into a third world cesspool so that a small minority can become rich.
