  1. adoption agencies have nothing to do with raising the children.  Some foster parents do kick out the kids at 18 but most of the "good" foster homes treat their foster kids as their own and at 18 either going to college or working. So alot don't move out at that age unless they want to.

  2. Foster families very often do, yes, because they are no longer receiving financial support for that child.  Because of this, a lot of these kids who age out of the system end up jobless, homeless, and (especially for boys) behind bars.

  3. I don't know about all but the adoption agency where I got my son from had a program to help the Mom's weather they kept the baby or gave up the baby to help them get on their feet

  4. actually some do...

cause a friend i had turned 18 and was kicked out

  5. I don't know exactly what your question is. Agencies throughout the country are certainly very different and handle birthmothers in different ways. But, I don't know what you mean -- agencies are not places where teenagers live. They are not places where teenagers go and have to leave when they are a certain age. Agencies arrange for pregnant women who are considering giving up their baby (usually before it is born) to meet with people who want to adopt babies. They all have their own ways of arranging the adoptions but, the general idea is that the agency gets paid and the birhtmothers give up their babies and the families wanting the babies get the babies because they pay the agencies. No one works or lives on their own or with anyone or gets kicked out.

  6. i was in foster care and on my 18th birthday i had to leave. no job no money and no support. thankfully after some rough times i am ok. i know alot of kids forced to live on the streets because the money stopped and foster parents do not want to care for an 18 year old for free.

  7. Usually- they send them to a group home.

As everyone said, foster families are not paid to care for those children past the age of 18. They are not paid much for the children they do care for.

So, yes and no. They have the option of going to a group home.

  8. Yes they have to but i am sure they prepare them but yes they do get kicked out and have to fend for themselves. They are adults now.

  9. They pretty much do, but they try to prepare the child and help guide them with schooling, job, a place to live, and financial management. The state can't pay for them forever. Sad but true. Foster kids have to grow up just the same as kids that still live with their parents. I believe that you remain a ward until graduation, so long as your still attending high school.

  10. I know that most foster families do, the state doesn't pay them after age 18.  Is that what you mean?

  11. True

  12. Teenagers don't live at adoption agencies, so the agency can't kick them out.

Foster parents may lose their subsidies for foster children who reach age 18. There are exceptions for special needs kids. And it is increasingly possible to get exceptions for kids who are going to college.

State agencies are supposed to begin "transition planning" for foster kids, starting at age 14. Ideally, this includes help with things like writing a resume, balancing a checkbook, making a budget, finding an apartment, and other tasks needed for independent living.

  13. They do their best to prepare them for that day first.

  14. No,I am employed with one right now.If the child is not ready and does not show self dependence then the child will not have to move until later but I am not sure of the age because it varies from state to state. We offer classes called Independent Living and it helps the child learn the basics of living own their own.Once the child is working and displaying an effort then the agency will help the child get an apartment and a car.
