  1. every living thing must eat, cicadas DO eat, dont listen to these ppl who say they dont eat because they havent done their research, cicadas survive solely off liquads on plants

  2. They can hurt you by mistake...if they think you are a tree!!  It happened to me.  I had two on my fingers and I was going to take them home to see if they would mate.  Well after about 15 minutes of being still with them on my fingers I had a horrible sharp pain, and it was trying to insert its proboscis (or whatever its called) into my finger.  So, don't let em think you're a tree!  Otherwise, they are indeed harmless.  This was with the 17 year variety of cicada.

  3. Yes cicadas do eat, they feed off of xlyem, a fluid from decedious trees, with a straw like mouth part hidden between their legs. They live about 2 - 3 weeks. they cannot harm you in any way. Only the males sing because they have a designed organ, called tymbals under them that vibrates creating sound.

  4. Most cicadas subsist solely on the fluids of a living deciduous tree (trees that lose their leaves in the fall).
