Do air conditioners reduce global warming?

If so, then we should be able to build enough to offset the warming caused by the CO2 increases?

  1. Of course they do.  They keep beer cool too if you place the bottles right in front of them!

  2. ..who cares, they reduce my warming....

  3. no they don't, because in order for an AC (air conditioner) to work they need energy. besides, it is impossible for an AC to reverse or get the global warming to equlibrium, it has to be gigantic.... but you never know where science can take us =)

  4. PLEASE UNDERSTAND....THERE WILL BE GLOBAL WARMING  AND  COOLING CYCLES AS THERE HAVE BEEN FOR MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF YEARS.

GO AHEAD WITH YOUR A/C  DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE DOOM AND GLOOMERS...THEY ARE CON MEN AND DO HAVE A WAY OF WARMING THE PLANET..WITH GAS                 .LIVE YOUR LIFE.

  5. ya ,and i believe a great system should be built by NASA in case we can use recent technelogy which found by sientists ,during their efforts to conqer the differnt probs they face in space race ,a system that can be play as great air conditionsi mean just using clear energy the solar

  6. No - that would be the same as a perpetual motion machine.

Air con uses more energy to cool than it cools (e.g. 2W of power to remove 1W of energy from the air). In fact, air conditioners are one of the worst devices used by individuals for the environment.

  7. no boss it has adverse effect on global warming.

it increase the quantity of co2 in atmosphere

  8. No, air conditioners increase global warming because they consume energy, much of which is produced by burning coal, a byproduct of which is CO2.

  9. No. According to the laws of thermodynamics, you cannot create a 100% efficient machine.  Some percentage of energy will always be lost to the surroundings.

In the case of the A/C, energy is lost in the form of heat. If you have ever stood at the back of an air conditioner, you have probably felt the heat radiating out of it.  Air conditioners actually do more to HEAT the air than to COOL it, because they are inefficient.  (If they were 100% efficient, they would simply have a negligible effect, since all air conditioners actually do is move heat from one location to another.)

The same goes with refrigerators.  If you open your refrigerator door to cool off your kitchen, you will never succeed.  You will waste electricity in vain.  And you will eventually heat up your kitchen to boot, since your refrigerator will now be working harder than ever to reach a cool temperature (which means more heat is being released than normal).

  10. Yes they do and everyone needs one.

  11. NO offense  but this question explains your previous ones...

It is maybe time to pay attention in science classes.

  12. Lol...this is a joke, right?

No, air conditioners cause a lot more CO2 to be emitted into the atmosphere than any cooling effect they may have at all. Think of your neighborhood, and how small the cooled houses are compared to the sky and atmosphere. Anyways, all of the cool air stays trapped inside the houses, and even if it could get out, it would have no effect on global warming.

  13. only if the windows are open
