  1. Has no affect as the AC is a closed system.

  2. They use energy, which causes fossil fuel to be burned, which adds to the burden of greenhouse gases.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't use them.  We don't have to stop doing things to fight global warming, we just have to do them smarter.  Here's the plan:

  3. An AC unit is a heat pump.  It captures heat from indoors, and moves it outside.  It also creates some heat by using an electric motor to do this.  So using an AC unit does release extra heat into the environment.

Personally, I would use one, if only for the comfort.  You can minimize how much heat you add to the environment by using it wisely.  Set the temp. up a few degrees from normal - say at 80.  Close all windows and doors during the day, so the cold air doesn't escape.  Open windows in the evening or early morning, to fill the house with cool air while you can.  Avoid making extra heat by cooking and so on if you can.   And make sure your house is well insulated, and the doors and windows are sealed and caulked to minimize air infiltration.

  4. Liberals cannot use air conditioning, only conservatives are allowed to use A/C, because only libs believe in Global Warming.

Air conditioners do not hurt the air, but liberals claim the natural gas electricity generators used to run the A/C hurts the air, and the freon in the A/C unit destroys the ozone when the A/C unit gets recycled.
