Are there some commercial airplanes out there that have an elevator in them? I've seen them in movies, but just wanted to see if that was really true or not. I'm guessing the bigger flights that fly internationally etc. This is a bet by the way between me and another person. She says its impossible that they have elevators. LOL

  1. Yes, there are aircraft out there that have elevators in them.  These aircraft consist of the wide body models.  For instance, the DC-10, B 747, and L1011 all have lower lobe galleys.  In the states, these aircraft but for the 747 aren't really utilized any longer.  I cant speak with authority on other countries.

  2. You win the bet. She's wrong. It's possible. (You won't find masy planes flying with them, but as was mentioned some aircarft did have them for use by flight attendants.

  3. Yes!  My dad flew the L-1011 for a while and it had the galley below the passenger deck and two elevators to carry the meal service carts or personnel between decks.  This is the truth, but you  owe me.

  4. Yes in some older model airplanes they had small elevators that the flight attendants used to go into the lower galley to prepare the in flight meals.

  5. sorry, but no.

  6. No.

  7. To clarify the previous poster, there are older, larger aircraft that have a service lift in them, but I don't think any of these are in service.  The new Airbus A380 has one as an option, but I don't think any airlines or private buyers have actually ordered one.

Some aircraft do have a 'flat lift' that can access the cargo hold, these are primarily military configured and not meant for passenger use.

  8. no there is no need and plus it is extra weight
