  1. No, a good many of them speak Quechua or Mapudungun ridiculously fast!

Apparently "Chilean Spanish is notoriously difficult for foreigners to understand due to the dropping of final syllables and 's' sounds, the very soft pronunciation of some consonants and the high levels of slang employed, particularly in Santiago and the surrounding areas."

  2. chilean accent is beautiful, you cant compare it to mexican spanish, it sounds like  a completely different language,

Young people are the ones who speak it fast.

    quechua or mapudungun??? lol!!!!

no one really  knows how to speak that! thats an indian language and there are not many indians in chile

  3. yeah, chileans do tend to speak fast and have a very distinct accent. i lived in chile for most of my life, and that's where i learned to speak spanish. years after i left whenever i speak in spanish with someone else from latin america they immediately recognize my accent as chilean. its very different from any other country's accent, i would attribute the development of a different way of speaking the same language to the separation created by the andes mountain range which secluded chile from the rest of latin america. chao!

  4. I have to agree with you. Chileans and Cubans also seem to speak waaay too fast! I'm just starting to learn Spanish and I have also found that. Glad I could help!

    =)
