  1. Your question is whether ALL GCSE papers are marked with one marker specialising in a single question etc.

Each of the answers you have been given is partially correct!

Some GCSE exam scripts are scanned and the whole paper is marked by a single marker. Some GCSE scripts are scanned and a marker is sent only a given question/s to mark.

Some GCSEs exam scripts are still marked traditionally: your script is posted to the examiner and s/he marks the whole script.

Some (not many) GCSE tests are multiple choice and you answer on a mark sheet which is read by an optical mark reader and marked by the computer.

So, currently there are a variety of marking methods at present.

  2. In my experience examiners mark all the questions in a group of papers. A chief examiner checks the marking and adding up of the marks.

Edit: The system may have changed since then, I acknowledge!

Edit: Regarding repeating yourself; Each question has its own mark scheme. Provided your answers hit the mark scheme, you will get credit, even if there is some repetition between questions.

  3. The papers are now scanned (hence the writing in black pen thing) and each question is set of to a seperate person. So one person will mark hundreds of question 1, another person doing hundreds of question 2s and so on. The marks are then added up for each candidate and that comes up with the final grade.
