  2. Well, you are thinking of Ubuntu linux. It is only a distribution made by one group of people. Ubuntu has supported Compiz since a while ago, so all of it's current versions come with it enabled. Other distributions have Compiz as well, but not all of them come with it already installed. Many distributions are not used as much on powerful desktops that can support Compiz, so it would be a bad idea to use it by default.
