  1. No,

    Basically there are two types of processors available at the moment.

    32bit and 64bit.

    A 32 bit operating system should run on a system with a 64bit processor, but a 64bit OS will not work on a 32bit processor.

    Other than that, the os does not care much wich model of a processor is used (e.g. AMD or Intel)


  2. Each OS has its own minimum system requirements. Vista wants an 800Mhz cpu minimum while XP wants a 233MHz cpu, etc. A 64bit OS needs a 64bit cpu but a 32bit OS will run on 64bit cpus. All the Intel quads, Pentium D dual cores and Core 2 Duo cpus are 64bit but most systems are sold with a 32bit OS. Just google "(OS) minimum system requirements" to see what each OS wants. As long as the cpu is big enough the OS doesn't care who makes it.
