Question:

Do all Olympic medalists get sponsorship when they return?

In the U.S. (and possibly Canada, and Europe) can all Olympic medal winners generally count on corporate sponsors and advertising contracts. I know Phelps signed a large contract with Kelloggs (Frosted Flakes cereal), but what about those that win bronze or silver, or win gold in a less glamorous events such as high jumping, canoeing, or shooting?

  1. A PR manager in the UK predicted that one British gold medalist- Chris Hoy- could make up to a million pounds in the next year. For the less succesful athletes though it might be a lot more difficult to encourage sponsors to finance them.

  2. If they win and are in a high exposure sport.
