Do all Orthodontists use Rubber Bands? (not elastics)?

do ALL the orthodontists use Rubber Bands? as in, the colorful ones that are on the braces. not elastics. i recently learned that i was getting braces on short notice. i knew i needed them, but then my mom had made the appointment to get them in 2 weeks. so i don't know much about them! i looked at my orthodontists website, and nothing helped. i was just wondering. i have to wear them for 24 months so i might as well KNOW something about them.
