  1. Flying from where to where?  All airlines need ID.  Also need ID if crossing the US/Canadian border.  Domestic bus does not need ID.  Starting to check IDs on some Amtrak services.

  2. You can take a bus or a train, but not the airlines.  They require id at least twice if you check a bag.  Once when you check in and then the check everyone's id and make sure it matches the ticket as you go through security.  Sorry, but he might want to try to get a new id.

  3. for domestic flights.

yes all airlines require a valid I.D. to validate that the name in the ticket is the person bringing it.

    for international flights.

you need a passport and if need in the country your visiting a visa.

  4. ALL airlines do require ID.

Amtrak requires ID if you are picking up your ticket at the station. But if you call ahead and get a paper ticket delieverd to you-- you will not need ID. Or you could just have someone else go buy the ticket for you.

Busses do not require ANY ID.

  5. The airline is completely irrelevant.  True, they check ID to make sure that you aren't trying to fly on someone else's ticket. However, you could not fly without ID even if none of the airlines checked it.

In order to fly, you must clear the security check before you can enter the gate area. That is run by the TSA, not the airlines. And, TSA will not permit anyone to enter the gate area without proper ID. There are no exceptions.

  6. The Shadow's answer is correct...well, assuming your boyfriend is an adult, and assuming we're talking about the U.S.
