  1. That would depend on the the atheist.

    Edit:

I have faith the light will come on, when I flip the switch.

  2. God has given every person a measure of faith. But Atheists put their faith and hope in that there is no God, which is foolishness.

  3. Yes. We're all robots.

  4. Yes, I have faith in myself, my family and my friends. I believe in them because they are always there for me.

  5. atheism is the lack of faith in god thats it we have faith in other stuff but the logic of a id is one we do not

  6. they have excessive scientific logics.

  7. We have no hearts or feelings. We are Borg. Resistance is futile.

  8. God is an athiest.

He lacks self-confidence. That's why he wishes us all to worship so it would boost his self-esteem.

  9. Right, I wouldn't consider myself pure evil. I've experienced faith,big deal!

  10. science is factual so you don't need faith

  11. If faith is defined as the belief without evidence, no, I do not have faith.

If being faithful is defined as being true and loyal to one's spouse, yes, I am faithful to my wife.

I do not have faith in science, since I do not believe in science without evidence.  I require evidence.  Science has the evidence.  I have seen it.  No faith required to believe in science.

  12. I have faith in the worth of each individual human.  I have faith in Mother Nature, although I see her as a metaphor rather than a real deity.  And I have faith in myself most of the time.  I have faith in the principles of logic, and in the application of those to valid ethical principles, and I have faith in compassion.

I just don't lump any of that together and call it God.

  13. It depends on which definition of faith you use.  Merriam-Webster has 3 definitions: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionar...

I have faith in myself, my friends, and my family according to 1a.

    I don't have faith according to 2a.

I do have faith according to 3, but only when there is an overwhelming amount of evidence for the thing I have faith in.

    ____

  14. I have faith in my husband's love and in our marriage.  I have faith in my children.  I have faith in myself and my abilities.  I have faith in my education and where it will take me.

  15. faith is nothing more than what it is-faith.

I have faith in things such as family, education, science, myself, etc.

But it is not the faith that you know of and have for your god.

  16. No it is not correct to say that.  Many of us do not have faith in science, or at least not the same "faith" that believers have in their deity.  Science is only as good as the current evidence and how well we understand it.  Having religious faith in it would make it hard to adapt to new information  and introduce other complexities.

Yes, we can have faith in various things, like I have faith that my wife loves me, ect. However, this is not the same sort of "faith" that I had when I believed in God.

Atheism is simply the lack of belief in any god or gods.

    Edit:

Faith, is similar to truth in many ways.  When people tale about THE truth as in an absolute truth, there is not a real understanding about what that truth is, it is nebulous and undefined.  Similarly "faith" can be applied in many ways in different situations, having faith in ones partner or that the earth will continue to rotate (the sun will come up) are similar but not the same as having faith that God is real.

  17. Not at all correct. I have faith in humanity and many other things. Just none of them are supernatural. But in the end, as long as it isn't a deity, you could believe it and have faith in it and still be an Atheist.

  18. Different kinds of belief

-That which is supported by the evidence.

-That which is not supported, nor contradicted by the evidence.

-That which is contradicted by the evidence.

It isn't the same thing, to believe in a well reasoned argument, that is supported by evidence, and to believe in spite of that evidence.

  19. I have faith in Humanity and Nature. But I rarely call it faith, because faith pertains to non-evidence. When in fact there is a lot of evidence to the proven idea that we can trust in our fellow human being and in the miracles(or erratic, random, chaotic coincidences) of Nature to prevail and evolve in a positive direction up Mountain Probable.

So to put it simply....I have belief in Nature, Humanity, and Logic.

  20. As an atheist, I have faith in things if there's a valid reason for it.  For example, I would have faith in a good doctor to do a surgery, or that my car is probably going to work tomorrow, or that I'll wake up tomorrow.  Sure, none of those things are guaranteed, but there's real surrounding evidence justifying the faith.

As for the existence of any god or the truth of any religion, there's no surrounding evidence or reason to justify faith in IT.

  21. Faith implies following blindly. Science, contrary to what some trolls like to think, isn't a religion. It's based on cold, hard facts that can be backed up.

As for faith in myself? I don't need faith to know I'm fine.

  22. I don't know about other atheists, but I have faith in the fact you do not know the plural form for atheist is atheists and the noun "They" is to be used with plural form.

  23. They have faith in the notion that the universe formed by chance...that the earth had all the right conditions for life by chance....that life arose from lifeless chemicals...that the single cell evolved into sentient creatures etc.

  24. You are misusing the word faith.

I don't have faith in science.  To say I had faith in it would mean an unquestioning acceptance without evidence.  I do have a great deal of confidence in the scientific method.

  25. athiest means we don't believe in religion or rather we refuse to until there is GOOD evidence that supports religion. plus everyone is an athiest. If you believe in jesus i'm pretty sure you don't believe in buddha, so like richard dawkins says everyone is an athiest its that some just go one god further.

  26. I can't speak for all atheists. Personally I believe in certain concepts, but I don't consider them to be "faith,"  as faith implies a belief in that which is unproven or can't be proved.

    I believe in the Constitution.

I believe in the rule of law.

I believe in individual dignity and worth.

Those are the top three, but I have a lot of others. I think you get the idea.

  27. I also asked this question a few weeks ago and got some really interesting answers (check it out in my stats if you like). I'm glad to see you use faith in the broader sense, as so many people think it's just a religious term.

Personally I have faith in many, many things - I think faith is an integral part of life. I just don't believe or have faith in God.
