Question:

Do all cars have to have a tax disk? answer pls!!?

my m8 kept arguing with me that if your car was made after somert like 1988 it has to have a tax disk and if it was made say in 1976 iyou dont need a task disk!

i always thought all cars need a tax disk!

  2. Yes, ALL cars need to display a valid tax disc. Vehicles built before 1973  are classified as historic and are exempt from road tax, but must display a "free" disc . If you are in doubt, contact the DVLA to avoid falling foul of the law.

  3. Although some vehicles don't pay road tax, they still need a tax disc. You fill in the forms, they issue the disc but you pay no money. And it's pre-1972, I believe.

  4. If your car was built before 1st January 1973 you can tax it as a historic car. This is free (i.e. no road tax payable) but you still need to display the free disk.

    The original law was cars over 25 years old but this has now changed.
