Question:

Do all dogs seem to like the expensive carpet?

Before we got Judge we purchased this nice rug. It's worth a bit and we got it pretty cheap.

Now, after Judge, it's a mess. As soon as we got him he decided that that was going to be the place he'd rub his butt on. It's been puked on more times than I can count. 95% of the times he had an accident, it was on that rug. Even visiting dogs leave presents right there (yep, every single one. Judge literally scares the c**p out of them).

Is it always that way, or is our rug special?

  1. dogs have taste! the more expensive, the more damage it will get! i'd invest in a little green machine and just keep cleaning up.

  2. i know how you feel. my grandma used to be a nanny for 2 doctors who had triplets. these people were, rich, Mayo Clinic doctors. and they bought this rug worth about 2000 dollars. but then they decided they didnt like it so they bought something else and gave this one to my grandma who in turn gave it to us. when we moved to our new house we put it in our dining room. then all h**l broke loose when we got Sammy. this was before we thought of crate training so he was "confined" to the kitchen with a baby gate that he quickly learned to climb. i left for about 2 hours and i came back and EVERY single corner of this expensive 2000 dollar rug was chewed up. thankfully we didnt pay a dime for it. my mother was kind of mad about it but also kind and forgiving. they both seem to like the white carpet on rainy days.

  3. Your rug is special.  No really, for some reason Judge picked up that that rug was different that the rest of the floor.  Dogs being pack animals will not potty in their den.  He has identified that rug as outside of his den, or at least far enough out of the way that it is acceptable for use.  The other dogs smell previous accidents and have identified that as an acceptable place to go.  The same is true for your yard.  If you train your dog to go to the bathroom in a small area of the yard, visiting dogs will use that area too.  They sniff around to find where others animals have gone and mark their territory.

I think if you have the rug professionally cleaned - or at least a good deep clean by yourself and spray a different scent on it - you will be able to train them not to use it.  You could also after cleaning it - use a dog barrier spray which when smelled will make them leave it alone.  You can get that stuff at any local walmart or pet store.  The key first is to clean it well. Then retrain - by taking the dog to the carpet and with your hand open in front of the dog (where they can see) say NO firmly while moving your hand downward in front of their face.  Then take them to another spot that it is acceptable to lay and congratulate them and pet them.  Then repeat this step a few times.  You may even have to do it a few times as you see the dog head to that rug again.  Some habits are harder to break, but BE CONSISTENT.

  4. Get a professional cleaning done, because that is part of why the returning to spot.  keep that rug gated off from your dog.  Ihve some cleanup products in my store you can link from my profile.

Make sure the pros use something to neutralize the dog stuff.

  5. LOL!  Yes!  It's remarkable how they seem to sense what is expensive and of course, will pick the costly things to mess up or ruin!

    ADD:

I have learned that whenever I buy a new item, I go into it thinking "this is for the dogs".

  6. If you had an old, rotten rug the dogs would not even notice it. It is only the expensive kind they go for. Sorry!
