  1. Lots of critters, especially in the temperate zones of the world, have strongly seasonal mating seasons.  The females are only fertile for a comparatively short part of the year.  For the rest of the year, I can't imagine there'd be much point in a period.  However, my imagination could be wrong seeing as I don't actually know.

In one case I can think of, the so called Naked mole rat of East Africa, most the females are generally infertile, but that's due to suppression of fertility rather than an inability to breed.  As with some insects, each colony has a queen responsible for breeding.  A social structure like that must also effect periods.

  2. In the wild, most female animals only come "into heat" once a year. And when they do, they rapidly locate a mate, and become pregnant.

So they don't normally get a period.

  3. Yes all female mammals get periods... they vary but they all come. :(
