I'm trying to decide on which cable to get from the store, but most don't specify supported resolutions. Does this mean they all can support 1080p?

  1. They should all support 1080p, both single-link DVI and dual-link DVI.

However, I would suggest getting an HDMI-to-DVI Dual-Link cable (given that the DVI terminal in the device can support it; most should nowadays) because of its higher bandwidth. The highest resolution for Single-Link DVI is 1920×1200 (the 16:10 equivalent of 1080p) so it could work, but using dual-link DVI (whose highest resolution is 2560×1600) would greatly reduce the chance of interference, picture flicker, quality loss, etc. (The bigger the funnel, the greater the flow.)

I would also suggest getting a male-to-male/double-headed HDMI cable and a DVI-male to HDMI female adapter as opposed to a DVI-to-HDMI cable. That way, when you're ready to connect an HDMI device to an HDMI television, you'll already have the cable and won't need the adapter anymore. And you won't have to spend money on a DVI-to-HDMI adapter later on. HDMI itself has a higher bandwidth than dual-link DVI and it can also transmit audio with the right device (DVI can't).

As far as brands go, they're all the same quality. Don't waste your money on some Monster Cable (or any other designer cable brand) that costs like $70 or more. Get an inexpensive one. I got a 7-foot HDMI-male to HDMI-male cable for $12 at Newegg.com and a Dual-Link DVI-male to HDMI-female adapter for $13 at Circuit City and they work perfectly.

    Hope this helps.
