They would need to be registered with Yahoo. When registered, they are automatically given a Yahoo address.  They do not have to use the Yahoo address; they can select to use any email address they want to as their Primary address.

no, they do not need a yahoo address to send an invite or join per an invite, however they'll end up being e-mail only members without it and I believe the invite gives them 2 options to join, and how to get an account.
