If a team changes the members of it's team from the heats to final and the team ends up winning a medal, do the heat swimmers get a medal too. eg. Aussie Womens 4 x 200m Freestyle Team. I heard the entire team was changed for the final. Do the heat swimmers also receive a medal?

  1. If your team wins a medal, everyone on the relay, including those that swam in the prelims, gets a medal.

  2. They all get a gold medal. Lots of countries use their B Team first - so they are all entitled to a medal!!

  3. The heat swimmers do get a medal but do not stand on the podium. Anyone who swam in the team to get to the final will receive a medal to take home.

  4. The whole team gets a medal even those who were in the heat but did not get a start in the final.  The team that competes in the final is presented with medals on the dias but you get a medal even if you were only in the heat.

  5. My understanding is that although the preliminary swimmers do not get to stand on the dias, if they medalled, they too get a medal. Afterall it was a  'team' event. I heard Bruce or Duncan mention it last night during one of the race calls. It makes sense that they do. Wouldnt seem fair if the fastest swimmer in the prelims get the team through and not swim in the final winning team, and not get a medal.

  6. Only those in the finals.

  7. While I don't know the answer to your question, I believe it would be cheating to qualify then switch players.

    Savvy?

  8. no the final is all that matters.
