i was wondering if the plants at the bottom of the sea need another source of energy, since they don't have access to sunlight.

  1. they get some degree of light.

  2. No mushrooms dont and there is no light at the bottom of the sea or in caves but things grow there.

  3. What plants at the bottom of the sea? Fungi don't need light.

  4. Yes, but then again that remains to be answered by what you believe a plant is. If a plant is something that has chlorofil and uses light to grow then, yes all plants need light. If you are speaking of the fungi or mold growing on the floor of a cave rarely ever lit, then perhaps no. But, then again those things are made of microscopic organisms and not plant cells.

All plant cells need light to survive, but not to remain a plant cell. You can take a plant cell out of the light and it will still be a plant cell, it will only be one that is not growing. I hope you understand that.

So I guess you need to be more specific with your question. Do all plants need light to grow? That would be a better question. And the answer would be, yes all plants need light to grow.

  5. There are no living plants at the bottom of the sea.  All plants need sunlight.

  6. no not all plants need sun for energy.

  7. I wasn't going to answer this, but since there are

some wrong answers, let me make a go of it.

Bob Ballard, the discover of the ship Titanic, also

discovered some plants on the bottom of the

ocean in the mid-Atlantic I believe.  They were

living right in or next to volcanic vents arising from

the ocean bottom.  There is no sunlight at that depth

The plants get their energy by apparently

chemical processes that they metabolize. from the

minerals coming out of the vents.

  8. No, not all plants use sunlight.

  9. yes....sunlight is the source of life for all the living beings, i guess.

  10. i think the ones at the bottom of the ocean get energy another way....

  11. Yes, all plants need light for photosythesis, its the only way they get food

  12. no, all plants dont need light, they dont all use photosynthesis, but im not exactly sure what other energy source they use

  13. There are no plants at the bottom of the sea where there is no light, but there are plants in the dark crevices miles beneath the earth's surface that do not need light to survive.  We are not talking caves, but hidden, enclosed pockets deep within our planet.  The several dozen species of plants there draw their energy from the Earth's molten core.

The coolest of these plants is Gordonius Macupalie, the famous fire plant.  It lives hundreds of years, and glows bright red from a chemical reaction within the plant.  It would die instantly if ever brought to the Earth's surface.

Brisbane Roo's answer is incorrect.  The life forms that were found beneath the North Atlantic near the Titanic (a) had tiny amounts of light that reached them through the watery depths, and (b) are from the phylum Ballositus, which scientists agree is not a plant phylum.  Sorry Roo, better stick to Dingoes and Wallabies.
