Question:

Do all schools do this?

I want to enroll my daughter into preschool or pre-k, but she has to go to an open calling and she isn't guaranteed to get in. Do all schools do this or is it really like this? I think it's unfair that you have to have your child "tryout" to get into preschool.

  1. For preschool it is kind of pathetic but yes most schools now do turn away students.

In england alot of schools have upto a 2 year waiting list. ( mostly secondary )

  2. no not all schools do this...in fact there a many schools that only need a few simple facts of information about you and the child and they will accept you then and there

  3. It's probably natural. My sister doesn't get accepeted into first grade until the teachers come and check whether the house is suitable for her..

  4. oh, wow

I've never heard of that before,

    then again,

    I'm only in highschool

  5. poor kid.,

Nothings fair in this world. Face it. Do it.

  6. I never heard of "trying out" for preschool.. personally i never went to preschool and i turned out fine. But My Baby sister is in Preschool atm and she didn't have to tryout. So, it might be Some schools.

  7. omg...are u serious..i dont think all school do this..where do you live???

  8. no.

  9. i don't know if it is common. but i know what they are looking for.

they basically want to see if your child ( any of the children) "play well with others."

they don't want kids who hit other kids, who don't listen to the teachers.

  10. I'm sure a private preschool can do this, as they probably have a limit as to how many children they can have. So they can either do a first come, first serve, or some other way to figure out who can go and who can't. I'd just look for another school if you have a problem with it. There can only be so many students per teacher, and it's not regulated the same as a public government sponsored school.

  11. If this is a magnet or charter school, they may do this. A public school, normally does not.

  12. When I went to Pre-K I had to try out to because it was a top Pre-K and I went to 2 Pre-k's both I had to try out usually they only let you try out if it is a high quality Pre-K.

  13. yeah all preschools either you have to try out or get put on a waiting list.

  14. All school do not do this.  Many just take students until it is full.

  15. IF it is a public school, she can qualify if she has any type of disability (like a speech impairment) or if your income is not above a certain level.  But you can also pay like a tuition if your income is too high or if she has no learning disabilities.  This is only true for preschools that are in public school systems, at least it is that way in our state.

  16. private mostly but yes, it's like getting into university for us by with pre-K

  17. That is very unfair! You should take this to the school board.(if the school is apart od it!?!)

  18. some do some don't

  19. More and more schools are doing this nowadays. Most of the time if they do this the school is of a rather good quality. It is a bit unfair, but the process is worth it if your child gets in.

  20. No, not all schools do that. It does seem unfair but when a school is almost filled up, the administration becomes choosy about who they accept and how many more children they can accommodate.

You should look into several schools instead of just one school to ensure that your daughter has a school to attend this fall.

  21. i know school in california do that....
