Do all speakers need an amp?

i have two 6in 4 ohm speakers that i want to connect to my bose radio through the aux out but the sound through them is very quiet. i thought that the bose acted as the amp. am i wrong?

  1. the aux out sends out a line level signal meant for another amplifier to amplify.


  2. 4 ohm speakers require twice the power than 8 ohm.

  3. Yes the Bose should act as an amp and probably does, but you also have to take into consideration the power requirements of your speakers, which your Bose radio has limited power and your speakers probably require more than the Bose can put out, therefore the quiet or limited sound.

  4. i assume this is for your car.. suck it up and wire it in properly or get a proffesional to do it

    you may just have bought a crappy headdeck though. or crappy speakers.

  5. Speakers are MOTORS. They need power to create the mechanical movement.

    Here is the rule:

    - If the output is an RCA type jack - the signals are line-level and cannot drive speakers.

    - If the output is speaker posts, the signals carry watts of power to drive speakers.
