Do all things in quotation marks always start with a capital letter?

Eg: "This is the greatest day ever!" "Oh is it really now?" "Yes of course it is!" "You're wrong! That stupid girl ruined this day," "No she didn't."

  1. Referring to dialogue, if it is the start of someone talking, then yes. but if it is a continuation then no.

    eg. "But I was here first," she said, "and she pushed in!"


  2. soph has it right, but there is also usage when referring to a specific word or phrase. examples:

    In the above text, the word "wind" is ambiguous.

    or

    Phrases such as "sharp as a tack" and "tight as a drum" are similies.

    no capitalization needed.

  3. Not neccesarilly. you can be writing something and say if you put friend in the marks, that means it wasn't a true friend. The word friend wouldn't need to be in quotaion marks. However, if it's dialogue, then yes.
