  1. Sorry: toric contacts correct astigmatism the way ordinary contacts correct shortsight...

By refocussing the eye the correct amount *while they are being worn*.

(astigmatism is only a particular form of short- or long-sight, not a disease or any other peculiar condition)

There is no "training" or "fixing" element to this, the way there is with wearing braces ro "correct" tooth alignment.

Two slightly different uses of the same word.

The astigmatism is just as likely to change, or stay the same, as the rest of your Rx is.  Somewhere between 18-23 years of age, nearly everyone's Rx stabilises to a very great extent.

  2. That's right, don't confuse correcting with curing.

Toric lenses will correct the astigmatism problem while you are wearing them, by bending light in the proper way for you to see better , but that's all.

They don't cure or eliminate astigmatism.

  3. I don't think you can correct astigmatism.  If I'm right, I think astigmatism is just a curvature of the cornea, and the toric lenses are shaped to fit the astigmatism, but it doesn't fix the problem.  It is just supposed to make them more comfortable.  You will always have astigmatism.
