Question:

Do all women assume an insult whenever possible?

Some time back I was on the official Star Trek forum and I created a thread about why I felt Janeway was the worst captain in Star Trek history. I received hate mail for nearly 2 years from assorted women accusing me of saying this only because Janeway is a female. Now I provided several examples of why I believed this and none had a thing to do with gender. So why did literally hundreds of women insist that my real reason was gender?

  1. I hate star trek.

  2. not *whenever possible*..but often enough...we're like..the more *sensitive* gender

personally, i believe the *sensitivity* comes from conditioning

  3. You will find whatever you go out looking for....and in this case, insults.  An innocent remark can be misconstrued if someone is looking for an insult...

  4. It is a personal issue with some women. We are supposed to be equal, but sometimes we are still treated as inferior. I did not read your thread, so I couldn't say if you inferred any slander towards women or not. Most likely what you said seemed perfectly acceptable to you, but some women are so conditioned against gender inequality that they read between the lines and may have put words in your mouth.

As a woman, I have to say that we tend to jump the gun and get our feelings hurt too easily at times. If it had been me and I had an issue with your post, I would have cited the specific thing that upset me instead of just accusing you of being sexist. I assure you that not all women are irrational. Some of us do have a clear head.

  5. So your a Trekkie?

  6. Why are you insulting me?

    lol

Had to say it since you said "all" women assume an insult-wouldn't want to disappoint you.

I can see Trekkies trashing you for years about any strong opinion-those people are practically evangelicals when it comes to their favorite characters. I have a life-size cut-out of 7of9 in my living room-you can say what you like about Janeway.

  7. Hundreds of women on a Star Trek forum... That doesn't sound too plausible.

  8. You were dealing with some overly sensitive twats, that's all.

EDIT: Oh, don't tell me I got a thumbs down for using the word "t**t".

  9. It is the influence of feminism.

  10. That's usually the only argument/defense most women can find - " It's cause I'm a woman, isn't it!" "I mean it must've been, there's no other explanation other than I'm a woman and you have something against women!".

  11. Don't go by people on the Official Star Trek forum. I go there frequently and there are some real nut jobs there.

  12. Something you said (which you conveniently left out) obviouslly gave them this idea.  Women are not illogical beasts who attack people for the h**l of it.  They are intelligent people.

Of course, you ARE talking about trekkies.  Just say "Spock Sucks" and watch yourself burn, baby.

  13. Some people are always raring for an argument. It's just the way they are.

I've always loved Star Trek, right from the beginning when it replaced Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

  14. First I like this question because it's Star Trek related, second I disagree and believe Kurk was a crappy captain, third a person from a minority group will usually feel slighted when a person from a majority group insults anyone of their group.  It is the same reason that if you say you like McCain and not Obama a lot of black people will call you a racist.  You are entitled to your opinion about anything you want, just know if you say you don't like someone from any minority group the members of the group will come after you.

  15. Well, Star Trek seems to inspire abnormally obsessive behavior for many of it's biggest fans, so I think this has more to do with the psychological makeup of Star Trek fans, than women in general.

And Jean Luc Picard was the best captain ever, of course.

  16. Two points.

    1.  Most trekkies hate voyager, so I understand where you're coming from.

    2.  Many women, if they like Star Trek, like voyager, and I'm one of them, so I see where they're coming from but still - hate mail is a bit severe for a sci-fi show!  :-)

  17. Fans are crazy. And I say that with love, as a longtime member of several fandoms.

However, you are not so much better, if you really took one isolated (if long lasting) incident as proof that all women are hypersensitive. The plural of anecdote is not data.

  18. Who cares, you watch Star Trek.
