Question:

Do aluminum pots and containers promote alzheimers?

I used to hear that aluminum pots and containers contributed to dementia like alzheimers.

That was a primary reason to use stainless steel pots and pans, as well as glass beer bottles.

I have noticed that canned soda changes taste after a few weeks.

Has this been investigated and confirmed or debunked?

  1. I can't really answer your question, but I got rid of all my aluminum cooking pots and pans years ago. I try to limit my use of aluminum foil in cooking, especially if it is going to be heated. I also quit using under-arm deodorant products that contain aluminum -- read the ingredients label. I'm pretty old now, do not have a history of alzheimers in my family, and except for a few "senior moments" am as mentally alert as I ever was.

  2. It doesn't look like it. There's been about 30-40 studies done in animals and humans, and no increase in Alzheimer's dementia has come up. That means we're pretty safe as aluminum goes.

This sort of thing persists when we've got a scary disease like Alzheimer's out there, where there's not a whole lot you can do to prevent or treat it. From the look of things, Alzheimer's has way more genetic factors than anything else.
