They shouldn't but they can.  Some that they could have are ascarids, capillaria and giardia, among other possibilities.  Air sac mites are fairly common in finches and canaries.  You should have a fecal test done for most internal parasites.  It isn't terribly expensive.  If you have a finch or canary, your vet can check for air sac mites.  Your vet can also look for external parasites, though these are pretty rare in most pet birds.  The scaly leg or scaly face mite is fairly common in budgies but can affect others as well.
