  1. Oh h**l, I could go on for hours on this issue.  The Dem's want Americans to be stupid(and a lot of them are) so that they do not know when they are being bamboozled. That way, the Dems can come on board and say (loud booming voice)

I AM GOING TOOO SAAAAVE YOUUUUUU, and the start throwing things out there like welfare, health care, social security, environment, veteran's benefits, mortgages, (side whisper question "Have I forgotten anything?) uhhummm  and EEEDUUUUCAAATION.  They say it every FOUR years to appease their sheeple.

  2. Well you're getting into the basis of the beliefs of the Republican and Democratic parties.

Generally, Republicans favor less Government and less restriction.  While improving the freedom of the citizens, this can also adversely affect the government being able to perform its functions - helping those in need, supporting the infrasturcture of the country, etc.

On the flip side, Democrats tend to favor more Government.  While allowing the government to better perform its duties, it also leads to higher taxes (for funding) and generally a greater possibility of abuse (given the higher amount of opportunity).

For the record, I'm a Dem - but there's pros and cons to both sides.  I think Americans are generally a very independent lot - it can be traced back to our roots.

  3. Yes, I think they do.

  4. Yes, the general public relies on the government to make changes and disseminate info that will directly affect their lives. Meanwhile, we'll chase a story about Lindsay Lohan and her possibel sexual preference for days.

The gov't likes it this way as they can stay in control. Sure, we vote and maybe we send a few letters to our Congress reps, but we're are not as active as citizens in other countries are. We're complacent and need a swift kick in the tush to see that we should be more vocal and active in the way the country is run.

Ok, now I'm going back to reading my People magazine.
