Do americans refer to Universal coverage as socialist medicine?

Side question: For those of you who do call it socialized medicine, does that make anything government controlled socialized as well?

Side answer:  Pretty much.  Not always (roads, military, trade, foreign relations), but usually (welfare, socsec, education).
