Would an anarchist always be considered a nihilist? Do you know any nihilists? Is it possible to be a positive person and still be a nihilist?

  1. Yes

    Yes

    No

    No

  2. No. Anarchist are progressive and nihilist are destructive. Republicans and nihilist go hand in hand, just the way f**s go.

  3. I know plenty of nihilists and anarchist. An anarchist doesn't have to be a nihilist. I know plenty of them who are not. The definition of nihilism makes it impossible to be a true nihilist and positive at the same time.

  4. Historically, most anarchists have been devout Catholics. Is Catholicism nihilism? Most nihilist are fascists. Anarchism is a positive economic theory, not a bomb throwing f-you attitude.

  5. No, I can't even imagine why someone would think that an anarchist would always be considered a nihilist...  That's absurd.

    Yes

    Yes, relatively speaking.

  6. No. No. Maybe. Probably.

Anarchism is a political philosophy, not every form of which is nihilistic. In fact, many forms of anarchism are very anti-nihilist. Anarcho-syndicalism, eco-anarchism, anarcha-feminism, Christian anarchism, even anarcho-capitalism all have value systems. In fact, it is hard to see how a political theory could be nihilistic. Political theories are theories about how states and societies should be organized, but that "should be" is a value judgment, and this would necessarily seem to make them non-nihilistic.

I would say that nihilism can be anarchic. If nothing really matters, the laws have no moral force. But even if nihilism is anarchic, this does not mean that anarchy (the political theories) are nihilistic. For the reason mentioned above, I do not think they are.

As for whether a nihilist can be "positive," I take it you mean have a positive demeanor. Cheery, or happy, or friendly. Yes, there is no logical reason why they couldn't be. It would seem that nihilism would be a negative and frightening philosophy to believe in, but this is not necessary. It is perfectly possible that a nihilist views nihilism as a sort of freedom.

  7. ...yes, anarchist political reasons, nihilist just because...

...yes, perspective denotes positive view of the individual...
