Do animals have rights?

Rights??  No, I don't think they should. People should held accountable for how we may treat them, (aka - brutally, torturing etc. )  I think Spain has recently given civil rights to Monkeys... Research that!

Humans are animals, and we seem to think we have rights.

There are laws about animal abuse and mistreatment.  People can be charged and arrested for neglecting their pets (there's a show on Animal Planet called Animal Cops or something...it's pretty depressing how some people treat animals)

However, not all animals are covered - like I don't think fish and animals like hermit crabs are protected

You could also consider placing an animal on the endangered species list as giving the animal rights.  National parks also have rules and laws that protect the animals within them.
