  1. Depends on what field you specialize in.  Some Anthros study cultures halfway around the globe, and have to go there.  Others work right in their own backyard, and may never travle (job related) more than 200 miles in their entire career.

  2. it doesn't matte what you major in, it matters what job you get.  You can have a degree in anthropology but only get hired as a lab tech and have to work in a lab all day.  On the other hand, you could be a head researcher or research assisstant and get to travel quite often.

  3. Generally, cultural anthropologists and archaeologist will travel frequently. Linguists and physical anthropologists probably travel less, but anthropology is a rather flexibile discipline.

  4. I've been all over Central America and Mexico. You dont just travel, but you live in the country, with the people, for a period.  Most PhD work requires 12-18 months......if its a long way from home, thats the norm. If you work closer to home, you can travel back and forth.

  5. As an undergraduate, you won't get to travel unless you study abroad or take a research internship abroad. After college, it all depends on what you do for a living.

If you get into anthropological research, you may get to travel, depending on what you research. I took a linguistic anthropology class in college, and we read books about cultures in Guatemala, Australia, Africa, and the American Southwest. To write these books, the authors had to live with these people for a long time to learn their languages and study how they used them. On the other hand, my professor studied, among other things, Japanese romance novels, comparing the language to western romances. This would not require much travel.
