Do anti-psycotics block adderalls/amphetamines?

well i just got some meds called zypreza and iv been using them but 4 some reason it feels when i take those pills that it blocks out my ADHD medication.Does anybody know if this is fact or not?My ADHD has been acting up and i cant feel the usual feeling i have when i take adderall after i take zyprexa.Im wondering if they block each other out?

  1. Most, if not all, antipsychotics block dopamine D2 receptors.  Amphetamine and amphetamine-like drugs cause the release of dopamine, which then acts on dopamine D2 receptors (as well as on other dopamine receptors).  So, in theory, yes, antipsychotics would tend to block or blunt the effects of amphatamines.  As for your particular drug interactions, it would be best to consult your physician and/or pharmacist.


  2. Picking up where Simonize left off ,Adderall works mostly by causing the release of norepinephrine in the brain and only at high doses does it cause the release of dopamine. Since Zyprexa doesn't block the norepinephrine receptors I doubt it would block the effects of Adderall. You are probably experiencing the main side effect of Zyprxa-drowsiness. Check with your doctor.
