  1. they help to raise the serotonin levels in the brain but it can take a while for the antidepressant to start work. it usually takes between 4-6 weeks for you to feel the full effects of the drug if it is right for you. if you don't feel any better after being on it for 6 weeks then you would probably be put on something else to see if that works. it can be a long process of elimination but worth it when you find one that works.

    good luck xx

  2. Yes, if the reason for your depression is a chemical imbalance they will help by stabilizing your system.

  3. If you are not very depressed, you might find ways to feel better without medication. Therapy is also an option.  If you are finding it hard to do the things you use to do and feel hopeless, you might want to give them a try. They have helped me feel better.  I can think more clearly than when I was severely depressed.  Please take care of yourself.  I hope you feel better soon.

  4. Do pain killers actually help?

Antidepressants help more intelligently than pain killers do.

  5. I take Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) in the evening - for depression and anxiety.  I've been taking it for over a year and a half, and that has worked very well for me.

Talk with your doctor, and have them refer you to a psychiatrist - they are better trained than your GP for dealing with depression.

Best of Luck to you :-)

    Paul.

  6. yeah but not all medicines work for everyone.  I tried a couple and only one worked for me.  So don't give up if one of them doesn't work. give it about 2-4 weeks. :]
