Do ants actually like rubber tree plants?

As in the song below? We have a sickly ficus at my work, and an ant problem. I'm wondering if the 2 problems could be related...And yes, I know it sounds dumb, but I'm serious.

(They did find Troy, after all...)

"Next time you're found with your chin on the ground

There's a lot to be learned so look around

Just what makes that little ol' ant

Think he'll move that rubber tree plant

Anyone knows an ant, can't

Move a rubber tree plant

But he's got high hopes... he's got high hopes

He's got high apple pie in the sky hopes

So any time you're getting low

'Stead of letting go,

Just remember that ant.

Oops there goes another rubber tree

Oops there goes another rubber tree

Oops there goes another rubber tree plant."

  1. You're right.  Madison Avenue is at it again.  The original lyrics, including, "anyone knows an ant can't, move a sickly ficus plant," were way less appealing than the rubber tree.

Now go back to all the Beatles lyrics and replace the word love with drugs, as in "All You Need is Drugs," and you will have the original Beatles lyrics before they got all PC about it.

Anyway, I have ants in my house right now, and that's only because my downstairs neighbors are spraying.  Any they only have ants because they are slobs who leave too many crumbs around.  No ficus here.

  2. The Ficus elastica , often called rubber tree plant is a member of the fig family. It is a type of banyon tree from India. Maybe the ants like sweet fig juice.
